MFMW - empowering the migrant community
Another week, another Charitable Choice beneficiary charity to visit. This time I visited Mission for Migrant Workers MFMW and was given a warm welcome by Cynthia Ca Abdon-Tellez, Joy Prim and Johannie Tong.

- There are more than 340,000 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. Of this number, 98% are women who come from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
- MFMW is the longest existing independent service provider for migrant workers in Hong Kong and Asia - celebrating their 43rd anniversary this year.
What they do
- Provide guidance and paralegal case support
- Organise quarterly Give Care to our Care Givers service fairs - blood sugar, dental checks and other helpful services
- Work and life skills training - mostly on Sundays
- Research and advocacy for social inclusion of migrant domestic workers
- Through partnerships with over 100 migrant organizations (cultural, hometown groups etc), MFMW assists an average of 5,000 workers a year.
What they need
- Title sponsor for their Walk to the Peak to be held in October 2024 - approx. $50K - 100K
- Second hand laptops for their Financial Literacy programme
- Venue for Sunday life skills workshops - prefer Central, Causeway Bay, TST
- Raffle prizes - staycations, Gift Cards, Disneyland/Ocean Park tickets, new devices
- Volunteers to teach work skills, computer skills, languages
- Volunteers for their quarterly Give Care to our Care Givers events - massage, yoga, photography, legal advice
