Sailability - making sailing accessible to all

Introducing a new Charitable Choice beneficiary - Sailability Hong Kong! It was the perfect weather for Rowena Hoy and me to visit Kay Rawbone BEM at Hebe Haven Yacht Club (HHYC) recently.

What I learned
  • Sailability Hong Kong makes sailing accessible to everyone
  • Primary target groups are disabled, elderly, SEN & underprivileged youth
  • Their active sailors range from 7 to 93 years old
  • 37 boats (and a hoist/sling for wheelchair bound sailors) cater to different sailing levels and needs

What they do
  • Offer free sailing experiences at Sai Kung
  • Host Special Education Needs (SEN) students and their parents/teachers for weekday sailing excursions
  • Provide learn to sail opportunities for more abled youth
  • Train (mostly elderly) volunteers to sail and help run programmes

What they need
  • 1 laptop for training purposes
  • 20 new life jackets ($400 each)
  • 6 radios to improve communication whilst sailing ($1000 each)
  • Sponsor a sailor ($6000)
  • Volunteers always needed - weekday or weekend

Can you help Sailability Hong Kong bring the joy of sailing to more people? If so, please get in touch with Kay Rawbone BEM or make a donation here.
