The Hub - supporting economically-distressed families in Sham Shui Po

Charitable Choice beneficiary The Hub Hong Kong provides a welcoming youth centre in Sham Shui Po for children and families to learn and play and call their second home. Thank you Kate Man for hosting me at The Hub Hong Kong and providing updates on what the charity needs right now.

What I learned
- The Hub Hong Kong supports economically-distressed children aged 6 – 18 and their families living in Sham Shui Po district
- The charity was founded in 2013 by two Australians, David Boehm and Bruce Stinson, long-time residents in Hong Kong
- They currently serve approximately 2,000 economically-challenged members

What they do
- Provide academic support and enrichment classes to students to give them equal opportunities to become valuable members of our community
- Classes include daily homework guidance, language lessons, STEM, recreational activities like music, art, drama & sports
- Families also benefit from counselling sessions with social workers, cooking classes and parenting skills workshops at The Hub Hong Kong

What they need
- Prize donations for their Charity Gala to be held at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on 18 October (Raffle/Table prizes & Silent Auction)
- Gala Table Sponsors
- Sponsors for art & music classes
- Sponsors and volunteers for outings for children (approx. $20-30K)
- Teenagers to organise & teach fun Saturday classes ($1000 donation for materials etc suggested)
